Default MeeGo Blog, News, and Planet

While browsing MeeGo website I just realized that MeeGo blogs is pretty dead. There haven't been any updates nearly a month now since Imad Sousou's post on 31 March, 2010. Is this silence sign of something big coming soon or just that people doesn't have time or interest to write about what's going on.

Actually, we only promote key blog posts to the front page, but if you visit the blogs page there have been a few more posts: http://meego.com/community/blogs

Honestly, most of the communication is happening in the mailing lists right now, since our current code is really only for developers to use. I plan to put some additional focus into blog posts after we do the release in May. At that point, we'll have more to say.

Dawn, maybe the front page needs a dynamic feed listing/linking other blog articles on the site? Maybe even an animated one that periodically scrolls (rather than simply using a "More" link).

I was going to raise a related thread just about a lack of activity on the MeeGo site. When I say a lack of activity, I mean, I know its all very busy behind the scenes but for anyone non-technical and not involved but trying to follow progress, it *looks* like not much is going on (unless you delve into the mailing lists etc, which many casual surfers wont). For example, the 'whats new' section, IIRC, hasn't changed at all since MeeGo was first announced, even though 'day 1' has apparently happened since then.

I understand that people are going to be busy with other things at the moment, but I really do think it would benefit the project if there was clear, tangible and explicit evidence of progress on page one for all to see. I can only speak for myself but for example, there's a product called CloudOS coming. They've had a 'coming soon' page without any changes for a good 6 months or so at least, perhaps getting towards a year. After no evidence of progress, I've lost interest.

I'll bet its half because there isn't really a whole lot for end users to see right now, but whether the current setup is aimed at them or not, you will be attracting a lot of ignorant new users hungry for information, because MeeGo has an ever increasing presence in the press. You dont want a whole load of potential users (albeit down the line) assuming the project is stagnating because they cannot see anything to suggest otherwise.

I'll confess, I'm not exactly in-the-know about MeeGo, but I feel that does actually if anything make me more qualified to raise this point. This is a naive and ignorant, but ultimately important perspective; because I am [a tiny bit of] your market and your target

I agree with happyblob...while it is understandable that this forum is not at the level, for example, mameo.org, it would be more attractive for the maemo confused and general end users to see that there is a sense of activity here and more importantly, the development of a community.
Anyway, as it is, thanks for all your hardwork and dedication, and for this tech illiterate wannabe, everyone here are superheros!

We made the proof-of-concept of using Maemo's Social News and Planet software to make the "what's new" area a bit more dynamic and community-oriented.

See it at:

http://news.meego.nemein.net/news/planet_meego/

http://news.meego.nemein.net/news/

This uses Drupal authentication from http://meego.nemein.net/, and our hope is to set this up on MeeGo site so it will work as an integrated part of the community, just like this forum does.

Great work, bergie!

Now if we can start rotating blogs on/off the main page at meego.com...

It should be quite trivial to "lift" the top items from Social News to meego.com front page using the feed provided in http://news.meego.nemein.net/news/items.xml

This way the front page could start to become more dynamic, a bit like maemo.org is
