Using UNetbootin is the most straightforward method.

If you're using Ubuntu, you could also use Startup Disk Creator. You could also browse http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ for more detailed tutorials on how to create LiveUSBs.

You could get the device via command line:
Code:
sudo fdisk -l
Your USB could be listed as /dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, etc. Just make sure that whatever parameters displayed matches with your USB (i.e. disk size, filesystem).

Just tick all drives again on UNetbootin and select the right device. Hope this helps.

Well it should be sdb1 but it doesn't work properly, says it's doing it but everytime i look meego is still on my usb.

This is really starting to annoy me, meego is so limited i can't even format my usb drive.

I don't quite understand. You mean you've already written the MeeGo ISO to your USB drive beforehand? If so, then I suggest deleting all the contents inside your USB drive before attempting to write another distro ISO using UNetbootin.

If in another case your are running MeeGo at the moment using your USB, you won't be able to format your USB since it is mounted and MeeGo is running from it. In this case, I would suggest you boot into another operating system, so that you could fully write into the USB device.

I'm not that stupid i'm not running it from a USB stick trying to format it.

It is installed on the netbook hard drive, i am trying to wipe a usb stick i have put in but meego is so limited it doesn't have a format option and unetbootin doesn't even pick up the usb drive on meego -> mounted or not.

That simple enough?

In any case i will just go back to ubuntu using someone elses laptop to burn it to my usb stick.

If you've just wanted to format it, you could've used the fdisk utility. Anyway, MeeGo is still in its early stages. You can't expect fullblown features in an alpha release. If there is a feature you want implemented, kindly file the request at http://bugs.meego.com.

That's not very nice. You want to burn an image to a usb in your first post but in your third you want to format the usb. MeeGo is limited because you don't know what tool you should be using for the job.

Go to Applications > System > Disk Utility.

You can format your USB there. When it comes to writing a new image you can use the image-writer software that you used to burn the MeeGo image with.

I understand you are frustrated. In my short time as a developer for a growing population I have had some strange problems. Communication can be muddied on a forums or even in chat. My worst case scenario was a number of people did not unzip the software first. So I sometimes ask questions that the more knowledgeable would find as an attack on their intelligence.

No one implied you are stupid... sometimes odd things happen.

I would also use the Image writer python programme as suggested which I have found to be pretty reliable ...which should translate as I have not broken it yet!
