Default [PROJECT] MeeGo Developer Engagement

I'm looking for talented developers willing to share their knowledge and help mentor the application developers of tomorrow.

If you're interested in helping out, please see the thread on the meego-community ML (http://lists.meego.com/pipermail/mee...ne/001066.html) and the wiki page at http://wiki.meego.com/DeveloperEngagement

Thanks!

I like this idea. Wonder though, how would it be organized?

IE: If someone signs up to help with classes.. do they just come up with their own classes and pick arbitrary dates to hold them on IRC? Or is there going to be a schedule defined with topics and such and someone can sign up to "host" that class?

Mentoring.. who assigns mentee's? Is this more of just a list of developers new developers can look at and see who to ask for help? Or will this be a true "You're assigned to X" type of "big-brother" style as you put in the wiki?

I don't consider myself a "talented" developer, but I do enjoy helping people on both Development and Administrative problems.

Early days. So there are a lot of questions looking for answers now. I can't answer all this alone, either, so fee free to help walking to a solution. This is just how I imagine things working...

I imagine this working similar to #meego-meeting, in that classes will typically be prepared a while (1-3 weeks) before they happen, announced, and then - hopefully - interested people turn up and on things go. The format of a class itself would be up to whoever runs it. In my case, it would be a mix of demonstrating and Q&A.

This is one area I definitely need help on. Much as I'd love to assign people to each other, I don't think that will work for the simple reason that people are fallible. I like the idea of a list of people that developers can use as go-to type people if they run into problems. What do you think?

Note: discussion (I hope) is also ongoing on meego-community. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts there.

Personally I'd really love to see a total beginners course so that people like me who're utter n00bs can make a start and learn the ropes. Not that I'll ever make a 'serious dev' but there must be a number like me who'd love to learn how to have a go. Huge kudos to W00t for this venture.

Yup. My goal is for total beginners, through to people who have done some development, but not Qt/Maemo/MeeGo/similar before. Even experts might pick up the occasional new thing.. who knows

w00t, I would gladly cover this effort in my "Diary of a QT noob" blog series. Of course I assume you intend to as well on your own blog.

By all means. Feel free to write up about the effort now - it needs all the exposure it can get. I haven't had time to write myself as I've been all hands on deck with a lot of other things today.

I think this is exactly what I need to take MaeFlight to the next level. I need some pointers and guidance. Perfect initiative! Thanks!
