Default Dual Boot Problem

Hi Everyone.

I have an Acer Aspire One d-150. I tested Meego in liveusb mode, and works just fine. Installed the SO, but i can't do the dual boot thing. I read and follow these instructions, but didn't work:

1º: Open a Terminal

2º: typed $ sudo vi /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf

3º: Press "I" to insert and edit data in the file

4º: Change 0 to 7 in "timeout" (timeout 7)

5º: add "#" right before "menu hidden" (#menu hidden)

6º: delete "menu default" on "label meego"

7º: add "menu default" on "label other"

8º: Pressed Alt+Ctrl+I to leave insert mode

9º: Press ":a" to save changes

10º: Press ":wq" to save and quit

11º: close the terminal (without any problems and/or warnings)

12º: Shut down the netbook

13º: turn on the netbook

At this point i have the first problem: the e-recovery management (An acer's tool to reinstall Windows XP, drivers and applications) launched. I just close the application, and the netbook reboot itself.

Then, the netbook start with Windows XP, but the boot menu doesn't appear. After that, every time i turn on the netbook, Windows XP is started without any boot menu at all.

I'm sure that the e-recovery managment didn't do anything. This application is located in a hidden partition, only viewable with partitions software. This soft it's designed for delete and create a NTFS partition, and after that install a Win XP image with drivers and some trial apps.

So, what's the problem? i've been looking everywhere for a possible mistake in the extlinux.conf, but in all the webs and blogs i looked up, there's the same information.

Thanks in advance, and i'm so sorry for my poor english...:P

Cheers!

In the primary revision, i can say that the SO works very well and smooth.

Wifi: OK
Lan: Ok
Video: OK
Touch pad: OK
Language (spanish): minor errors, some phrases remains to translate, but OK in a general view
Performance: OK, very smooth, fast in the startup and in the shut down
Drivers: OK so far, i didn't a full revision, but everything ok until now

Well, that's all for now. Hope this information results useful for someone.

Cheers!

EDIT:Sorry,
VIDEO : NOT OK. The gma500 seems not to be supported by many linux distributions. so, thats a new issue for me. Is there any driver to fix the video thing?

(Obviously, this is the primary revision on my Acer Aspire One d-150, Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 10.1" screen, NO bluetooth or 3G connection

Try this:
1 Open a Terminal

2 type $ sudo vi /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf

3 find the following lines:

label Other
menu label Windows
kernel chain.c32
append boot 1
menu default

4 change the line append boot 1 to append boot 2 (assumed that partition number 2 contains Windows OS)

5 Press ":a" to save changes
6 Press ":wq" to save and quit
7: close the terminal (without any problems and/or warnings)
8: Shut down the netbook
9: turn on the netbook

Yeah! Thanks a lot agcolella!

One more thing: The time that remains the boot menu is too short. i thought this was setted in line "4º: Change 0 to 7 in "timeout" (timeout 7)". Is that right? becauss the time in screen for menu actually is less than a second...

Thanks in advance, and thank you very much for the reply!

RE RE EDIT:

timeout problem, solved.

VIDEO in Acer Aspire d-150 (10.1" screen): OK, working just fine.

The video chipset is the gma 540, instead the gma 500

Cheers!
