Default MeeGo workgroup @ Linux Collaboration Summit

Hi, the Linux Collaboration Summit is about to start. Tomorrow there is a MeeGo workgroup: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/lf...eego-workgroup

I ended up drafting my session (that will be indeed workgroup) during the long transatlantic flight with my N900 + Notes. Ronan (developer advocate in our MeeGo Devices team at Nokia) was in the same flight. We met yesterday afternoon Dawn Foster, Imad Sousou, Dirk Hohndel, Marcel Holtmann and our Connectivity developers Johan Hedberg and Patrik Flykt.

Today I'm supposed to meet Margie Foster and Dimitris Glezos to talk aboul L10n infrastructure. texrat and GeneralAntilles from the Maemo Community Council should be here as well. Of course I expect to meet Ari Jaaksi, Sakari Possa and other nokians around.

Forgot to tell that yesterday we also found zchydem (or he found us, actually).

The Summit has started. Everybody has got a MeeGo shirt. I got from Dawn a roll of stickers.

More known faces but still no time for MeeGo specific chats.

Ari Jaaksi had his keynote. I guess no news for those following this forum. There is also an interview at http://www.linux.com/news/featured-b...-meego-revs-up

Questions to Ari from the audience (help me if I miss any):

- What about the developer offering? Doesn't seem to be very important looking at the current activities.

- Any intentions to merge with LiMo?

- Is it true that Nokia and Intel has veto and how can veto fit in an open project?

- What about the Symbian Foundation?

- Any intention of MeeGo for machine2machine?

Imad SouSou keynote. Also probably no news for the audience of this forum. He took one question:

- Is MeeGo going to be really completely open source? Are the current Maemo components going to be really open in MeeGo?

Did he respond to this question? Where can we find the responses to these questions? Is the Q&A published somewhere?

Both Ari in the audience and Imad in stage replied. Basically, that MeeGo itself is fully open source but vendors might add proprietary components at their own discretion. These usually come in the hardware adaptation (where in many cases that reality today is that there are not solid open alternatives for everything) and the application layer (Flash and Skype were mentioned as examples).

This is in line with the discussions already held at meego.com.

Yesterday in the social jetlagged me said around 20:00 "perhaps I should go to the hotel". But then it turned out that Red Bull was included in the list of free soft drinks and (sorry for the advertisement) I actually managed to keep the chat mainly with texrat, GeneralAntilles (Ryan) and Ronan (macron) until midnight.

Today is the MeeGo workgroup and at leas my slot is about workgroup and not the usual presentation with slides.
