Whatsapp is a proprietary app.
It is the company that produces whatsapp that decices whether or whether not provide whatsapp for N9 / Meego.

Such company seems to be aware of Nokia devices: http://www.whatsapp.com/nokia/ Maybe the most recent versions are Qt based?

Anyway, your time will be better invested asking them directly.

I agree. If people request support from the company, they might listen. Quick question to those interested, would you want this to be a stand alone app or integrated into Messages like Skype, Gtalk, etc. are?

ok, you guys are right, asking the company directly would be a lot better, but it would be nice if more than one ask for the app, if we all ask for it, they might consider it ........

Whatsapp is very important IMO.

Also, here in Kuwait my country, no one will buy a phone without whatsapp. It's a daily used app.

Also what about Nimbuzz ?

With risk to start a flamewar but I dont understand why people is using properiaty crap applications like this when we have exacly the same using open protocols like jabber. For example GoogleTalk is using jabber.

I am using it on n900 and I dont understand why Android phones doesnt already integrate it same way as on N9xx. If people has started to use Gtalk or another jabber based server we hadn't need this kind of ****.

internet protocol should be open!

I completely agree with you. What's more is that it's not even free! You have to pay for it after one year! It doesn't even run on desktops.

WhatApp's USP seems to be phone integration. One of the N9's USPs is social media integration. IMHO, a WhatsApp port would actually be a bad thing to have on the N9. Promoting its usage could be detrimental to the success of the device. If everyone starts using WhatsApp, people will think they already have all the IM integration they need and maybe they will decide not to buy an N9.

Unfortunately it's up to people like us to educate everyone to stay away from this kind of crap. It should really be called WhatsCrapp™.

I totally agree IM should be fully integrated, with support for as many protocols as possible.

However, I don't see any harm in having commercial and/or dedicated apps offering similar functionality for those that want it. The more choice the merrier, IMHO, and unfortunately the quantity of apps available (in particular "big name" apps, which may include Whatsapp) is how platforms are judged these days, not how well they integrate protocols so that multiple dedicated apps are rendered completely unnecessary (a lesson Nokia learned at great expense).
