Default Nokia to Reveal a New Market Disrupting Device on June 21st

iTWire reported they received an invitation from Nokia Australia for an announcement and demo of a “new market disrupting device” on June 21st. Following the demo will be a live broadcast of Stephen Elop’s keynote speech from the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. You might remember that Stephen Elop previously described MeeGo as their “future disruption in mobile ecosystem.” That makes us assume we’ll be seeing a Nokia MeeGo device next week.

I'm going to light a candle for Santa Rita.

P.S.: Here, this is a way to state that you are hoping for the best, against all odds.

Doesn't sound like a Maemo/MeeGo device - sounds like they're pre-announcing a WP7 device and trying to build up the hype.

Probably not a bad idea given the crashing share price - Nokia need to announce something new to avoid certain oblivion, and their Maemo/MeeGo strategy is such a mess that God knows when, or indeed if, that product will ever be announced.

Well, it can be WP7, or it can be MeeGo. The expresion "future disruption" was everywhere soon after feb/11, each time someone mentioned MeeGo to Stephen Elop, "disruption", "disruptive", and some other variants were talked...

I doubt it's WP - it's not going to be ready until the end of the year. So it's Meego/Harmattan device. The only question I have, whether the handset with hw keyboard will be available or not. It'll be pretty upsetting if only pure touchscreen device comes out.

Doesn't stop Nokia from announcing the hardware now, in an effort to shore up waning interest. And it wouldn't be the first time Nokia announce a product only to actually ship it 4 to 6 months later.

This quote, if true, doesn't make it sound like whatever is being demonstrated will be launching any time soon:

Quote:
"This will be a product demonstration only. In his role as product manager, Kurt [Bonnici] will only be available to answer technical questions relating to the new device," wrote a Nokia spokesperson in an email.
Then again, if it is the Harmattan device then only answering technical questions relating to the device itself could be an effort to avoid addressing the lack of MeeGo compliance and it's uncertain future as a non-MeeGo device, and MeeGo at Nokia in general.

I think it was Elop himself, who noted that Nokia is going to announce devices very close to the launch now, in contrast to the previous practice. So if they stick to their word - it will not be a WP device.
