Default MeeGo in your primary "lap"top

MeeGo Netbook looks very interesting and I'm considering it as primary OS for my next "lap"top. The question is: is there a device where hardware is decently supported and is powerful enough to be used as primary device for work?

I'm not a CPU demanding user and I'm not concerned about using MeeGo in higher resolutions than a regular netbook sinhce most of my work happens anyway within a browser or an email application that can scale well.

Most of the times my laptop is closed, connected to an external display (this means that the original display doesn't need to be big per se), external keyboard and mouse.

Do you think that there is a product out there ready for me to buy and install MeeGo in it?

I would like to know this as well. I was actually hoping that MeeGo Netbook will run and support all the features of the Nokia Booklet 3G.

I am really pushing for Nettop support. I can't get this image out of my head that a Game System's OS is really lightweight, Steam is coming for Linux, and I run MAME and other emulators. I am working on getting ePSXe over to my MeeGo SDK, if that is possible, to see how that works.

If you stick to laptop models that use integrated Intel graphics (only because the drivers required are already available for MeeGo with all right features), and a WiFi, Bluetooth, webcam models that are supported in Linux any laptop should work. We have tested Lenovo T60, T61 and they work just fine out of the box. I'm sure there are many other models from HP, Dell and Acer that would work too.

Just curious: Wouldn't building from the Nvidia or ATI driver sources work? I assume the kernel headers and development packages are available for install?

As long as it can compile is there a specific reason why using Nvidia or ATI won't work?

I just posted about two confirmations for Lenovo ThinkPad R500 and Dell Inspiron 1525. And I also noticed one guy had success with a Lenovo IdeaPad model. I don't know about the later, but on the notebooks I tried it looked pretty good.

Considering the basic hardware requirements we already know of such as Core 2/Atom processors, Intel graphics, etc., I'm positive that there are many more models compatible with the MeeGo 1.0 Netbook.

I installed MeeGo on my Dell D630 and was primarily using it for last few days including connecting to dock station. OS was very smoothly working with dual monitors (clone display only) in both laptop & external display native LCD resolution.

However, I had to compile wifi driver for Broadcom card.

This is really great! I am an advocate for Net top support, and hearing that people are running MeeGo on none Netbook brings me hope.

I have tried to run into my Lenovo T61 from a USB (live) and I dont get it.
I see the first screen to select boot or install, but it never come into graphic mode. Black screen only. If I press CTRL+ALT+DEL I get a message somthing like "System restarting"

I have tried only the Chromium version
