Exclamation My list of MeeGo problems...

Hey,

I really love the layout and speed of this new OS - it's given my netbook a new lease of life ! However, I can't get any proper functionality from it due to this list of problems!
  • Wireless doesn't work - I press connect, nothing happens! Adding details manually doesn't work either.
  • Twitter client will not log in (wired connection obviously!)
  • Google Chrome is very temperamental, and randomly chooses to not load sites?!
  • USB DVD drive not recognised in the Devices section
  • System hangs for several seconds whenever I click the Media tab
  • Navigation is a bit "iffy" - randomly get taken back to My Zone
  • Blank screen appears after boot - I have to shake the mouse to make the log-in screen appear.
  • Battery life seems poor... about 12% drained in 10 mins.

So I know it's only a first release, but still, I can't use this as a netbook OS unfortunately FYI I am not running on fully supported hardware, here is the spec:

Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (latest A06 BIOS)
2GB RAM
8GB STEC SSD
Intel 5100 AGN wireless card
Samsung SE-S084 USB DVD drive

Thanks,

Su

@sumanji,

Im running MeeGo 1.0 with Chrome, like you, on a EeePC 1000HE and it works flawlessly ;-). I'm not surprised that you have run into a few bugs, seeing as this is the first version and its hardly gonna support all netbooks perfectly out the box.

One idea - with your WiFi card, you may want to check in the BIOS settings (hold F2, F12 etc when booting) that under 'On board devices' (or something similar) that the WiFi card is actually enabled. You may be able to do the same with your DVD drive ;-)

All things working flawlessly with MeeGo on this netbook, my my, Ubuntu Linux just hates my netbook. I've installed it over 5 times on this Eee (fresh installs) and there's always one thing or another broken or not working (its different every install), so you may even want to try a fresh install of MeeGo to see if this fixes things. Also, before re-installing, set all the BIOS options to default and that may help :-)

Please file bugs on these issues -- it's a bit more work than posting here but you will almost certainly be more succesful in getting the issues fixed..

For the USB dvd issue: could you run these in terminal and include the outputs in the bug (plug the device in first and wait a few seconds before running these):
Code:
gvfs-mount --list --detail
dmesg | tail -20

mole51, I am fairly sure the wireless card is enabled, otherwise I would not be able to scan for AP's within the OS I could try reinstalling the OS, but since I installed using the original perfect ISO, I don't think this will help...

jku, sounds like a plan - I will file proper reports

Cheers,

Su

Well I just installed the Chromium version of MeeGo (I was using Google Chrome version before). All problems still exist, so it's definitely not an issue with that particular build!

I took a look at that sticky (thanks), but none of the fixes were relevant

I have a Dell Mini 9 and I followed these instructions to get MeeGo see the WiFi on the dell mini 9:

http://slaine.org/_slaine/Meego_1.0_Wifi.html

You've got to re-run the process when you update the system. At least I had to.

One issue I've got now is that is see the Wifi at boot, but won't connect automatically until I turn it off and then on again (from the Network panel).
After that it works fine.

I also have the issue of the blank screen right after boot. It's like it runs the screensaver right after logging in.

I didn't have any issues at all a part from these ones.

Note: I didn't try the DVD issue on USB as I don't own one.
Also note: when re-compiling the module after an update (you may not need to do it at EVERY update, rather at every kernel update, I guess) you need to re-install the package with --force:

Code:
sudo rpm -ivh --force ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/i586/wl-kmod-5.60.48.36-1.meego.i586.rpm

Hi,

I successfully installed Meego on a Neo Basic B3300 Netbook, but I am having issues on my network connection.WLAN is turned on but the wireless connection is not detected. I also tried using a LAN connection but it still doesn't work. What could be a solution for this?.

Thanks!

Kinda off topic. Ok, first you will need to determine what WiFi card you are using. Open a terminal and enter 'lspci'. Look for the WiFi information or post the data here.
