What does OBS mean to you ?

Are you looking to use the community OBS to build your project ? In which case if you had MeeGo / openSuSE 11.2/11.3 installed with the 'osc' tool. You only need an account on cbuild.meego.com (have your meego.com account added to cbuild.meego.com by seeking out X-Fade or lbt)

Using the community OBS means you develop and build locally on your system at work/home/wherever. Once you are done you can then commit the data up to the community obs and have the shared community infrastrcture build your application for all MeeGo platforms (Netbook/Handset/IVI/etc...) and allow other people to download it.

Are you looking to setup your own standalone OBS server ?

With this option you are providing all the server side parts of the OBS system. That is the server/website/database as well as a worker (or worker-farm). These shall be your resources and all the data will be constrained to that hardware.

This option is more for software design houses and those with the resources and buy/maintain/manage the server hardware.

If you are looking to build a close-source application, but setting up an "OBS server" is a little too much work, you can still build locally and distribute. OBS is not a requirement to create an application that other MeeGo users can install, it is just a system to help manage that process on a larger scale (many projects and people).

Thanks, dlmiles.

Well, what I need is the last one 'own standalone OBS server'. But actually as same as my previous question, I only can see many confusing suggestions which are not unified or refined.

Have you ever built this standalone OBS? could I ask you if you have any working solution?

Not completely. A few month back I got it installed across some VMware/Xen instances (using openSuSE 11.3) and am just awaiting the recent announcement to allow anonymous read-only to meego-core to take a look at that again. This will be happening very soon.

I used a mix of information from OBS server wiki (at opensuse.org) so http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/OBS-Appliance maybe a good starting point for you. There is also MeeGo specific information http://wiki.meego.com/Build_Infrastructure (some of the link at the bottom concern setting up your own OBS).

Maybe you can describe the hardware setup you intend to use.

Smile Re: how to make OBS?

Hi,

I am working on setting up OBS. I am using VMware vmx.

I've followed the steps provided in opensuse serice appliance link

I've created partition for server and worker.

Since I am creating OBS as virtual machine, I just wanted to know how any other system can connect to the OBS.

Since I am new to the creation of OBS, after creating the partitions, I just wanted to know how do I go forwared.

Your response would really help me... Thanks in advance
