Default Lenovo S10-3t - 1.1 and MeeGo Virtual Keyboard

Hi,

I have installed MeeGo 1.1 on my Lenovo S10-3t, the touch screen is working great. Got the WIFI working by following the instructions at slaine.org.

I would really just like to use this as a tablet and not worry about the keyboard. I installed the package MeeGo Virtual Keyboard, meegotouch-inputmethodkeyboard-0.4.8.2.13(i586), but I don't see it anywhere and am not sure how to activate it or where to find it.

So does anyone no if the meego virtual keyboard package works and if so how does one activate it and or where can I find it.

TIA for the assistance.

Regards,
Todd

Update:

FWIW the following link Turn s10-3t into a slate and this wiki entry, on MeeGo site explains how to get this working.

Hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Sadly, I failed at this one. I couldn't edit the css file (nor edit it elsewhere and copy back - it wouldn't delete) and I don't seem to have a folder /etc/xdg...

Edit: I found the file, but can't work out how to edit it. I assume both this and the css file have to be edited from within the terminal. Which is beyond me.

I bet you tried with user privileges. Open terminal and issue

Code:
[solt@solt-desktop ~]$ sudo -i
[sudo] password for solt:
Give the user password set up during installation and you get:

Code:
[root@solt-desktop ~]#
From this point you can access RW any files.

Now, since the thread is already there I got a couple of questions wrt on-screen keyboard.

1. How can I play with keyboard visual? For me it is much too big. I'd love to have it both smaller (I think -target option is a hint) and have smaller keys.

2. Why the keyboard is not showing up on web password fields? Itt is a main blocker atm.

I got someone to help me edit the files using gedit (Is that right) so I did all that. Then I rebooted and nothing happened. Except for the small sob of frustration. I shall try again tonight. If nothing else I am blessed with dreadful determination. The terminal asks me for the password when it wants it. Do I need to do other things too?

Having failed to either install the codecs (suspect the website gave me the wrong thing for my instructions) and load the community repo (wget is not a valid command???) I took my teddy bear and went to bed. Will try it all over again tomorrow!

@revdkathy, so did you eventually got it working?

Meantime I put my fingers into keyboard tweaking as the keyboard taking nearly half the screen was far from my needs

First I wanted to have it smaller so I took /etc/meegotouch/devices.conf and found the following settings acceptable:

Code:
[slate]
resolutionX=600
resolutionY=600
ppiX=150
ppiY=250
However I don't have much idea what given parameters mean, or rather what the actual impact is. So if anyone could elighten me.. please

This gave a smaller canvas but key names (letters) and icons were still pretty big. I found it is a matter of /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/libmeego-keyboard/style/libmeego-keyboard.css thing.

My CSS patch file and a screenshot attached. I guess this can be better but this was just my try & guess game

Sadly, no. This was one I decided to wait on. I have a suspicion that in a week or two some clever soul will have sorted a tablet keyboard that can be turned on and off, can be used not to fill the screen, and by then we might even have rotation (Multi-touch is already well on the way) . I felt this was one where my best policy was patience.

I installed xournal, which has given me some tablet function. I won on all the other projects so I don't feel so useless. I may well come back to this in a few days when I have played with all the other things I want to get working. Thanks for all the help, though!
