Default Vienna MeeGo Network

Given that there are already lots of N900 users at the Metalab Vienna, I think having MeeGo meetups in the future will be something that will happen there sooner or later, anyway, so I thought I'd just throw the idea out there.

It should probably be in the spirit of the monthly Hack-A-N900 hack sessions that have been held there earlier this year - if you are interested, reply here or get in touch with me directly. I'm sure we can find enough people to have a first hack session sometime in October.

contact me when something is brewing. I'm eager to get a MeeGo device once they exist, but right now I don't even have an N900 (yet)...

If you happen to be in or around Vienna on the coming Sunday (2010-12-12), stop by at the PyUGAT meeting - http://pyug.at/Treffen/2010-12 at the Metalab. I'll be there and I think some MeeGo-interested people will also come to the talk

A monthly meetup with talks (both for developer and end user audiences) and the usual "get-together" would be nice to set up. Right now, there's not much real "MeeGo" to see (except for the reference Handset UX for the N900 and the Netbook UX), but we could already kickstart a monthly meetup with development topics that will work on MeeGo when it's out (application development using QML, etc..).

If there is enough interest, we could plan a first planning meeting in mid-January or in February.

Would it make sense to something in for Linuxwochen in May? If someone wants to do a talk there, it needs to be handed in before upcoming Friday, btw...

That's 5th to 7th of May, right (assuming you're talking Linuxwochen Wien)? I'd definitely be interested in doing some MeeGo-related talk or even workshop at Linuxwochen. Want to help? As MeeGo covers a pretty broad spectrum, what do you think would be a good "specific" topic for discussion/presentation at LiWo? What would you be interested personally?

I'd surely be interested, other than having handed in a talk myself (on analyzing Mozilla crash reports), I haven't yet signed up for anything on Linuxwochen Wien yet (and yes, was talking about that part, as this is the "Vienna" thread after all).

I think that getting out the message that MeeGo is there is already a good achievement, and I know there's a number of N900 users in the FLOSS communities here, so maybe something on getting N900E to run could be interesting, or something like creating you own apps simply with QML (something I don't know but would love to see) perhaps?

Too bad we don't easily have a tablet (with the new Intel UX) and/or IVI system to show off to people...

I've just submitted a talk about PySide and QML to the Linuxwochen Wien CfP portal - let's see if it's accepted :) If you don't want to use Python, but C++, it's still pretty much suitable as an introduction, as the QML part is the same, and the PySide bindings map to the Qt libraries 1:1, with just the language differences of C++ and Python.

I do have an Ideapad S10-3t here, although I'm currently not running the Tablet UX on it. I could definitely prepare that for Linuxwochen, though, and show the example apps running on the tablet.
