Hi, I'd like to announce the technical preview of the MeeGo port of Trojitá, a fast and lightweight IMAP e-mail client.

Sources are available in the QML branch at gitorious (run qmake with CONFIG+=trojita_harmattan). There's also a prebuilt .deb file of Trojitá to be installed on any N9/N950 phone (Ovi store submission pending on QA).

This is a technical preview of the application, so some funcitonality (most notably actually reading messages or proper integration with Harmattan's network session management) is missing. It should however be absolutely safe to use; it won't really eat any of your mail.

Suggestions are welcome either at the trojita@lists.flaska.net mailing list (moderated, subscription not required), at #trojita IRC channel on freenode, in this thread, as merge requests on gitorious or bug reports at the task tracker.

Many thanks to Nokia for letting me use the N950 from their community device program for development. A big thank you goes to all people who have contributed any code to Trojitá (Benson Tsai, John Rogelstad, Andrew Brouwers, Gil Moskowitz, Jiří Helebrant, Jun Yang, Justin J, and Tomáš Kouba), and to anyone who has reported bugs or otherwise contributed to this project.

Would be fantastic if you tried to port it to Mer. The N900 version of Mer/Nemo is missing an e-mail programm.

I'll wait until it is in the OVI Store to try it!

I don't have that device, so I cannot really verify that it works. The source code is avilable, so if someone in the community is interested, they shall just make it happen -- if it supports QML, it should be doable in less than hour, and if it doesn't, I really won't invest days of my time in something that I cannot ever use myself.

Can you please release it for Nemo/Mer? It can be done on N9/N950 (there is Nemo/Mer image for N9/N950). So you don't need any other device, and you don't need an actual device to build it, just use the Mer SDK or OBS. That's really a critical feature. I'll dump Harmattan as soon as there will be functional e-mail client for Nemo. (SSL is a must though - it's not advisable to use insecure clients).

In general, please develop stuff for Mer first, and for Harmattan may be as a secondary option. Mer is the active community project - continuation of Meego. Harmattan is a stalled abandoned system (though user bases are reversed). I.e. Harmattan will eventually be simply dumped by Nokia. Mer will be further developed. Mer/Plasma active Vivaldi tablet is one of the recent developments:

Unfortunately, I do not have resources for maintaining the Mer packages at this point, sorry. There's a .spec file for the desktop version (which runs just fine on OpenSuse's OBS) and a set of working QML files (requiring qt-components, including the Nokia-specific bits from PR1.1+) which should help you in doing the port.

If you're interested, just go ahead and become a maintainer of the Mer port; I'll do my best to help you.

Can't OBS produce both packages (deb for Harmattan and rpm for Nemo) at the same time? I thought it was possible.

The .deb package I've linked to have never gone through the OBS. I'd expect the usual difference between a .spec and debian/rules at the least.

This is one of many projects that was promised delivery as part of the community handouts of the N950, like some of them, it's been long on promises & (deceptively) low on delivery.
For one, why was the thread started here & not @TMO, that's clearly been a far better place to garner feedback from Harmattan users for at least 12mths now...
