As promised a while back, I am finally kicking off MeeGo Greeters (thanks stskeeps and dawnfoster for the prodding).

Right now I only have a very basic Greeter wiki page up (http://wiki.meego.com/MeeGo_Greeters) and I will be fleshing it out more over time. Note that the signature example was lifted from our old maemo.org wiki page for Maemo Greeters (http://wiki.maemo.org/Greeters).

The premise is very simple: use your signature to provide links to helpful MeeGo resources. Helping people after that is as simple as posting anything, anywhere here-- your signature does the real work!

Greeters, make sure to request a custom avatar well before the conference. I will be creating stickers for your badges. If you don't request a custom avatar, I will also have generic ones as shown in this post.

As I said in my email (which you never replied to! ) I'd be happy to be involved with this if I thought for a moment I could be any use. But the reality is that I simply never find any threads I can contribute to, so I could have links to anything in my sig, from Apple's website to Teddy bear porn, and it wouldn't matter a jot. For your sig to be visible, you have to post. And I have not found anything to say.

I'm still around. It may look as if I have lost all interest and dropped off the radar but actally I still watch and follow. I just don't have anything to contribute.

I'm getting ready to take another step. Here's what's needed:

1. Identify the current resources to link
2. Decide on best way to reference them
3. Create default signature template

Identifying the resources won't be difficult, and I'll round them up. But we need to decide the best way to manage them. Including every single link in signatures isn't viable. Here's my proposal, and alternatives are welcome:

1. Create a master wiki page for resources. The current index won't suffice since there are community projects and other resources with no official reference
2. Design signature template to reference the new master page along with a link to the MeeGo Greeters page

To me the problem in getting this started with MeeGo compared to Maemo is that when the greeters thing was started there we already had loads of content to link to.

We should start building/improving the pages to link to. For example the MeeGo FAQ page in the wiki [1] could use some loving. We could add some sub FAQ pages there and fill them up with questions/answers from this forum and mailing lists and if there's a detailed wiki page about the question, add a link to it. The new sub FAQ pages could be be divided into questions about non-technical, application development, platform development, etc. matters.

Thanks timoph, that's what I was thinking. You were the first Maemo Greeter so I was definitely interested in your opinion.
